New Year’s Eve Countdown to 2017

CBC and Radio-Canada will present news and entertainment coverage of the New Year’s Eve countdown events across the country as Canadians ring in Canada’s big anniversary year.

ON CBC:

2017 programming kicks off on December 31 with Canada’s New Year’s Eve – Countdown to 2017, a nation-wide musical celebration hosted by Rick Mercer from Parliament Hill on CBC Television, and online at CBC.CA/2017. The star-studded line-up of musical guests across the country includes: JUNO Award-winning and Grammy®-nominated multi-Platinum recording artist Carly Rae Jepsen and chart-topping country star Brett Kissel; singer-songwriter Scott Helman; KXO; JUNO Award winners Walk Off The Earth; The Strumbellas; The Bros. Landreth featuring Begonia; Radio Radio; JUNO Award winner DJ Shub; Yellowknife Throat Singers and JUNO Award-winning band The Sheepdogs. The special will also capture the excitement across the nation as Canadians ring in the country’s historic anniversary year.

From 7 to 9 p.m. ET, CBC News Network will deliver live coverage of the official ceremonies from Parliament Hill and celebrations across the country with Canada 2017 – NYE Live with Heather Hiscox.

ON RADIO-CANADA:

This historic anniversary will officially kick off on December 31 with an evening of celebrations aired on ICI RDI starting at 7:30 p.m. Louis Blouin will present En direct du 150e de la Confédération du Canada, a special broadcast on the festivities from coast to coast to coast, including the official ceremonies on Parliament Hill in Ottawa attended by Canadian Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly, followed by a spectacular fireworks show at 8:17 p.m.

At 10:30 p.m., the New Year’s Eve countdown (Le compte à rebours du 31 décembre) will get underway across the country. On ICI RDI, Bruno Savard will host a live broadcast from the Grande Allée in Quebec City that will allow viewers to join in the excitement of the cross-Canada celebrations and hear the countdown musical performances from Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver. At 11 p.m., ICI Radio-Canada Première will also provide radio coverage of the festivities, with host Philippe Marcoux.

A compilation of highlights from the music countdown will air Sunday, January 1 at 6:30 p.m. on ICI RDI and at 10:30 p.m. on ICI Radio-Canada Télé.
