Searchlight 2017

From Joni Mitchell to Drake, Canada boasts a legacy of musical greatness. Searchlight shines a spotlight on some of the great, undiscovered talent across the country, inviting Canadians to help discover the nation’s next great musical act.

With new partners and bigger prizes, the fifth edition of Searchlight will be the biggest one yet.

Canadian musicians are invited to submit their best song and compete alongside other talent from their city or region for the attention of the Searchlight producers and CBC listeners in their area. Regional winners go on to the national finals where they compete for the chance to perform in a nationally televised finale, judged by celebrities.

The CBC will commission the winner to write a new song celebrating Canada 2017. The winner will record the song with a mentor during a week-long residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. The winner will debut the song at the 2017 CBC Music Festival in Toronto, followed by a Searchlight concert on July 2 as part of the National Arts Centre’s concert series.

Searchlight will introduce us to undiscovered talent and let Canadians participate in the shaping of Canada’s next great musical act.

Sunday, April 9, 6:00 PM ET.
